4th International Symposium on Laser Ultrasonics and Advanced Sensing (LU2015)

Posted on 23.7.2015

During the 4th International Symposium on Laser Ultrasonics and Advanced Sensing (LU2015) RECENDT showed a thorough evaluation on its new laser ultrasound detector, which is going to be further optimised and adapted in the COMBILASER project.

Here, a much improved signal to noise ratio (compared to state of the art detectors) with high immunity to parasitic signals (always appearing in industrial environments) for the detection of ultrasonic waves was presented. Five different talks from RECENDT, ranging from acoustic wave propagation simulation to detector development and industrial implementations, showed the effort put into this research field. This led, during the future symposia meeting, to the decision that the next LU conference in 2016 will be organized by RECENDT at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz (AUT).

The LU2015 symposium was organized by the Center for Quality Engineering and Failure Prevention and the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Northwestern University, Evanston (Chicago), Illinois.  The LU2015 conference aimed on traditional disciplines such as, laser generation and/or detection of acoustic waves, non-destructive testing and materials characterization, ultrafast opt acoustics, guided wave techniques, modelling and simulation of ultrasound propagation in solids, sensor physics, nonlinear ultrasound techniques, and innovative instrumentation. The symposium provided opportunities to promote the recent progress in laser ultrasonics technology and identify potential new directions for development of advanced sensing methodologies.

COMBILASER in the Pump & valves trade show

Posted on 03.6.2015

Bilbao was the location of the Pump & valves trade show that had taken place the past 27th, 28th and 29th of May. In this edition over 220 exhibitors have participated, with TMComas also being there to present its products and also the COMBILASER project.

The Pump & valves trade show provided us with an excellent opportunity to present the COMBILASER project to the companies of the sector and increase awareness of the solutions the project will be offering.

This year has seen participation of major firms, such as Padima Gmbh, Flame Spray, Vorkauf, Torraval, Suministros Bidarte, Quilinox, Técnica de Fluidos, DIR-BASF, Permar, Kardex, ELDU, Ixion, Connectis, Rona Agitación y Dosificación and Comercial de Válvulas y Accesorios, among others.

The list of visitors to the different events of the show includes front - line engineering firms such as Técnicas Reunidas, ABB, Acciona Agua, Alstom Renewable Power, Cadagua, CAF Transport Engineering, Elecnor, Idom, Indra, Moncobra, Sacyr Industrial, Sener, Siemens and Tamoin, as well as firms such as Mercedes, Naturgas, Air Liquide, Artiach, Gamesa, Krafft, Solvay Química, Repsol Butano, Aciturri, Bial Industrial Farmaceutica, Rolls-Royce Marine, Befesa Aluminio, Hikma Pharma, Praxair, Renault, Saint Gobain Performance Plastics, Nuclenor, GKN Driveline and Enagas.

This international trade show for pump systems, valves and equipment for industrial processes, has as a main objective to help trade specialists find specific solutions to specific problems and in this context we believe that the COMBILASER project received its share of market attention.

EFFRA Impact Workshop

Posted on 02.6.2015
On 29th and 30th April 2015, Brussels hosted a Workshop led by EFFRA (European Factories of the Future Research Association).

The objectives of the workshop were:

  •  to have a common forum in order to talk about the possibilities of how to increase FoF projects impact and
  • to put in contact different projects with the same research domain in order to allow clustering activities.

Different factors can be considered as impact for European Commission but during the workshop mainly 3 main issues were discussed, as follow:

  • Patents,
  • New jobs and
  • Clustering

Participant from the COMBILASER project consortium has labelled the workshops as very constructive and an opportunity to create new links with similar development projects and initiatives currently underway under Horizon 2020.
